{"id":113,"date":"2004-04-21T15:11:20","date_gmt":"2004-04-21T21:11:20","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.mjhinton.com\/wild\/index.php\/uncategorized\/canyons-of-the-ancients-national-monument-colorado\/"},"modified":"2004-04-21T15:11:20","modified_gmt":"2004-04-21T21:11:20","slug":"canyons-of-the-ancients-national-monument-colorado-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.ahwilderness.com\/?p=113","title":{"rendered":"Canyons of the Ancients National Monument (Colorado)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a title=\"DenverPost.com - LOCAL NEWS\" href=\"http:\/\/www.denverpost.com\/Stories\/0,1413,36~53~2096859,00.html\">Monument gains key 440-acre parcel<\/a> DenverPost.com<\/p>\n<p>CORTEZ &#8211; <b>Canyons of the Ancients National Monument<\/b> recently gained a 440-acre parcel 7 miles west of Cortez that includes Morrison Canyon, <b>10 important archaeological sites<\/b> of ancestral Puebloans, the Anasazi, dating from A.D. 500 to 1150, and a mesa overlooking Trail Canyon.<\/p>\n<p>The Trust for Public Land will convey the parcel to the U.S. Bureau of Land Management so it can manage its cultural resources, the agency said Tuesday in a news release.<\/p>\n<p>The parcel was the last piece of the 2,000-acre Tail Canyon Ranch owned by Reece and Leslie Ann Malles. The landowners approached the BLM last year about selling it.<\/p>\n<p>Sen.
